The Royal Oak Offshore Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon – Features
The new AP Royal Oak Offshore Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon comes with a 43mm titanium case. However, the case displays a black PVD coating and a combination of hand-polished sandblasting and chamfers. Overall, the case looks exceedingly sporty.
Moreover, the watch flaunts an extravagant dial design. The dial shows big parts of the flyback chronograph movement via the transparent chronograph counters and open-worked bridges. They are placed towards 9 and 3 o’clock sides. However, the watchmaker crafted the bridges also of titanium and offered a black PVD coating. Some of them reveal the titanium below, showing a two-tone hue to the dial.
Furthermore, AP offered a combination of hand-polished chamfers, sandblasting and satin-polish finishing to the bridges and movement. Now:
The grey dial features a contrasting 18ct white gold minute and hour hands and a red flyback chronograph hand. However, with the flyback chronograph, you can reset the chronograph functionality instantly. Nonetheless, the unique feature you can spot on the dial is the flying tourbillon at the 6 o’clock side.
Tourbillons help to decrease the gravitational effects on a watch’s accuracy. And the term ‘flying’ signifies that it is supported from below, thereby appears like hovering. AP has employed a unique combination of a flyback chronograph and flyback tourbillon on a Royal Oak Offshore for the first time.
The Movement
The new AP Royal Oak Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon Chronograph features the brand’s in-house automatic Calibre 2967 movement. This flying tourbillon flyback chronograph movement debuted in the AP Code 11.59 collection. However, Audemars Piguet refined the movement aesthetically to complement the sportier look of the Royal Oak Offshore. The Calibre 2967 offers a power reserve of 65-hour and 21,600bph beat rate.
What completes the sportier look of the new Royal Oak Offshore Flying Tourbillon watch is an integrated strap system. The black rubber strap features sharply tapering and revised grooves. However, the timepiece is also available with a black alligator hand-stitched leather strap.
Overall, the new AP Royal Oak Offshore Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon Chronograph Limited Edition represents the glorious future of the Royal Oak Offshore line.
